The largest palace construction in Moscow of the mature classicism period was built as a Moscow residence of Empress Catherine II of Russia. Lots of architects from Moscow and Saint Petersburg took part in its long construction. The image of the main facade was established by G. Quarenghi. He created the unique for Moscow architecture vast stanza with a long colonnade made of 16 Corinthian columns built of a grey stone.
