Description
The scale of palace construction in the capital appears in the ensemble of the Saint Michael's Castle (1819–1825) by Rossi. Here the architect shows himself as a skillfull constructor - though Mikhailov street he joins the square in front of the palace to Nevsky avenue. From there one can see a wonderful view on a solemn eight column Corinthian portico of the Palace and an elegant rich of decoration facade. White reception room of Saint Michael's Castle has a precious original interior of the XIX century. Each element of the inner decoration - artificial marble of the walls, paintings, gilding, furniture and mosaic parquets, soft furnishings and lighting units - is elaborated and drew in by the architect as a part of the total artistic conception. Synthesis of arts proper to the Empire style reaches the apogee in the creative work of Rossi.
