In parallel with classicism in Russian architecture appear constructions in pseudo-Gothic (or neo-Gothic) style. Those are examples of Romantic tendencies in the architecture. Ensemble of Chesme palace and Church of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, created upon the project by Y. Felten, are among the first and most significant examples of this kind of architecture in Saint Petersburg.
