Description
The project of poustinia was created by P. Trezzini in 1748. The architect wasn't able to execute his design in stone - three years later he left Russia. Nevertheless the project remained and in 1756 the construction began. The Trinity cathedral became the central building of poustinia. Compact and cruciform in plan in ended with five widely set domes in keeping with the spirit of an old Russian five-headed style. From the western part there was a bell tower attached to the cathedral. Three high richly gilt iconostases dominated the interior.
Upon the project the ensemble of poustinia should have included stand-alone block of cells and four angle towers.
All the XIX century long the complex of poustinia have been appending with new buildings, which have harmed the complex integrality. The Trinity cathedral was blew up in 1962 during the Khrushchev anti religious campaign. At the present time there remain the abbot's building and one of the angle towers.
